A blow for civility by Lindsay Graham

Hooray for Senator Lindsay Graham (R-SC) for denouncing Glenn Beck as a cynic and birthers as "crazy." Extra credit for politicians calling out people on their own side. He also said that Republicans need to support President Barack Obama on foreign policy issues.

Here's part of his interview with The Atlantic:

The birthers, the tea baggers, the screamers, and the deathers continued extreme minority presence will become tiresome to mainstream America, if it has not already done so. To all the birthers in La, La Land, it is on you to prove to all of us that your assertion is true, if there are people who were there and support your position then show us the video (everyone has a price), either put up or frankly shut-up. I heard Orly Taitz, is selling a tape (I think it’s called “Money, Lies and Video tape”). She is from Orange County, CA, now I know what the mean when they say “behind the Orange Curtain”, when they talk about Orange County, the captial of Conspiracy Theories. You know Obama has a passport, he travel abroad before he was a Senator, but I guess they were in on it. In my opinion the Republican Party has been taken over the most extreme religious right (people who love to push their beliefs on others while trying to take away the rights of those they just hate) and that’s who they need to extract from their party if they real want to win. Good Luck, because as they said in WACO, “We Ain’t Coming Out”. I heard that she now wants to investigate the “Republican 2009 Summer of Love” list: Assemblyman, Michael D. Duvall (CA), Senator John Ensign (NV), Senator Paul Stanley (TN), Governor Mark Stanford (SC), Board of Ed Chair, and Kristin Maguire AKA Bridget Keeney (SC).

Call me a cynic if you must, but might this be a strategic mid-term political move? After all, the damage to kill a public option seems to have been successful, even though I still hold out on that something will give competition to the insurance company and make it affordable for some 47 millions to get health care insurance.

A recent Harvard survey reports that 45,000 Americans die yearly because they do not have health care insurance. So, for the entire summer months Senator Graham said NOTHING about the radical right. He kept his mouth shut. Now, after the Senate bill does not have a public option, the damage seems to be done there, and thousands of Americans died because of their inaction.

Does Senator Graham deserve a pat on the back for speaking now? I want to know why he has been silent for these past two months when the insurance company has hijacked America with its lobbing lawyers and hundreds of millions, to be exact some $380 MILLION dollars. I also wonder just how much insurance money has gone into his campaign over these many years that he has been in Washington.

With profits of some $600 BILLION annually you would think that the insurance industry would not be so against democracy, freedom and choice. Their lobbyists in Washington are 6 to 1 of every Congressperson. We are suppose to shout hooray for Graham now. I don't think so!

65% percent of Americans want a public option and yet a committee headed by Senator Bacus, whose entire state is less than a million people, lead the Senate Finance Committee where he and the other senators, save Senator Rockefeller who could probably finance his own campaign comfortably and pushed for a plan for the people, received MILLIONS of dollars EACH from the insurance industry to probably vote against the public option. Is this not a conflict of interest?

Senator Graham wants to disassociate himself from Beck and to exorcise him from the Republican Party now that the dirty deeds have been done and lies have been told. Where was he two months ago? The highly doubt it if the good Senator just woke up recently and saw the light of salvation. The salvation is of himself and his Party, not those who are dying daily without health care insurance. This stinks of politics to me.

A call for civility is always welcome. I'd even welcome a call for civility from (ugh) Glenn Beck himself.

Yeah, that's quite true, Bob. Awareness is also essential.
