Everybody deserves a second chance, even Michael Vick. But Vick pled guilty, was sentenced, served his prison term, and now has earned his second chance.
Polanski has a way to go. He pled guilty in 1977, when he was in his 40s. to drugging, raping, and sodomizing a 13-yr old girl. Then he fled the country before sentencing, claiming that the judge was going to throw out his plea bargain.

There was a tremendous amount of evidence, as I recall, that the judge made promises to Polanski based on his plea that he never made good on, causing Polanski to distrust any negotiation past that. Be that as it may, he skipped and no one else gets to skip without facing the music. I agree with a blogger I read recently; if he were a priest, would public opinion be so generous to him? Yes, he deserves a second chance. He needs to come back and get it.
If Polanski was not Polanski he would have been labeled a pedophile. Instead he was allowed to live a life of leisure in Europe for 32 years. This is an outrage. He admitted that he had sex with a 13-year-old girl. He was 46 years old. If my brother had committed such an act, he would have been back here in no time and in jail. I also think that the second chance thing is not really applicable now. First things first. Polanski fled. Vick did not. Everybody deserves a second chance. But Polanski needs his first chance in court.
Bob Stone is right about Polanski. Neither talent nor fame is a license to drug and rape little girls.
